Cybercrime: Man nabbed in Hyderabad for harassing girls with fake Instagram accounts

HYDERABAD: Jishu Kirthan Reddy from Medchal was apprehended by cybercrime police for harassing girls through fake Instagram accounts. Pretending to be a girl, he deceived innocent girls into sharing private images.

Jt. Commissioner CCS AV Ranganath revealed that the accused coerced the victims, threatening to expose their intimate pictures to their Instagram followers if they didn’t send more private photos.

A complaint lodged on December 28, 2023, detailed how the accused manipulated a 14-year-old’s photos and harassed her for explicit content.

Prompted by the victim’s mother, the cybercrime police swiftly arrested the offender and secured judicial remand.

A case was registered and investigated under Cr. No. 2955/2023 U/Sec 67, 67A, 66 (C), 66(D) IT ACT & 354D, 506, 509 IPC and 11 R/w 12 POCSO Act.

The arrest was carried out by Inspector Padma and her team, supervised by ACP Cyber Crimes, and closely monitored by Shilpa Valli, DCP, Cyber Crimes.

Hyderabad police have issued a warning to girls to refrain from sharing private information and have requested them to maintain the privacy of their social media accounts. The individuals were also advised not to panic and to contact the nearest Cybercrimes police for immediate assistance in such cases.
