Hyderabad police nab man with Ganja packed in small packets
HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad Special Operations Team (SOT) has arrested a young man from Gachibowli for allegedly possessing and selling ganja. The accused, identified as Basava Raju Pramod, 38, son of Basavappa and a driver by profession, was reportedly caught with 250 grams of ganja packaged in small packets.
It is alleged that Pramod, residing in the Rlo APHB Colony in Gachibowli, was actively involved in selling these small packets of ganja to laborers. The ganja, believed to be sourced from Doolapally, was being distributed among the coolies.
Upon search and seizure, the authorities recovered 250 grams of ganja along with one mobile phone from Pramod. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be around Rs. 16,250/-. Gachibowli police have taken Pramod into custody and registered a case against him. The investigation into this matter is currently underway.
Overflowing sewage cripples life in Vinayak Nagar, Shaikpet
Hyderabad: Residents of Siddi Vinayak Nagar in Shaikpet are grappling with a chronic sewage overflow issue that has persisted since 2016, causing immense frustration. They are urging the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to expedite repairs to address the problem before it exacerbates the spread of seasonal diseases.
Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Ajay Kumar Maryala, a resident and social activist, said the root of the problem lies in aging infrastructure. “The sewage pipelines were laid nearly 10 to 15 years ago,” he explained, emphasizing the urgent need for upgrades.
Ajay Kumar further highlighted the neglect faced by Siddi Vinayak Nagar compared to other areas of Shaikpet, where development works like sewage and road repairs are underway. “Budgetary funds have been allocated for those areas, but our locality seems completely ignored. Neither have any development works been undertaken here, nor have any funds been released. Every other area except Siddi Vinayak Nagar is being developed, leading us to suspect bias from the authorities,” he alleged.
The overflowing sewage poses a significant health hazard, especially during the upcoming Bonalu festival, which is celebrated in Shaikpet every two years. “Women are forced to navigate through sewage overflowing on the roads, creating an utterly deplorable situation,” said the Social Activist.

Despite repeated complaints to the HMWSSB, from the manager level to the DGM and even the Managing Director, no action has been taken. “We have been informed about a Rs. 42 lakh sanction for repair works in Shaikpet for many years, but the funds haven’t materialized. No official has taken concrete steps despite our escalation to various authorities,” said Ajay.
He blames the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) authorities’ apathy and the corporator and MLA’s lack of attention for the multitude of problems in Shaikpet, which encompasses 14 colonies.
Vinayak Nagar Welfare Association residents have also approached the MLA but have not received any response. They are appealing to the Zonal Commissioner to visit Vinayak Nagar and assess the severity of the situation firsthand. “We urge the HMWSSB and GHMC authorities to immediately release funds and initiate work in our colony to address this major inconvenience residents face,” they pleaded.
Hyderabad businessman loses ₹8.9 lakhs in fake forex trading scam
Hyderabad: A 41-year-old businessman in Hyderabad fell victim to a cyber financial fraud involving fake forex trading. The Cybercrime police are investigating the case after the victim reported losing ₹8.9 lakhs (Eight lakhs ninety thousand rupees).
According to the police, the victim received a WhatsApp message from individuals claiming to be representatives of XTB Traders and XTB Forex Trading Company. These companies are fictitious entities designed to lure unsuspecting victims. The scammers promised high returns through forex trading and created a fake trading account for the businessman. They then added him to a Telegram group named “XTB Forex Trading.”
To gain his trust, the scammers deposited ₹1 lakh into the victim’s account supposedly as a “benefit of joining.” They then allowed the victim to trade this initial amount and, conveniently, generated a small profit. This tactic is a classic confidence trick used to make the scam appear legitimate.
The fraudsters then encouraged the victim to invest his own money, promising further profits. Initially, they guided him towards seemingly successful trades, further solidifying their charade. However, as the victim deposited more funds based on their instructions, the scammers manipulated the fake trading platform to deplete his account entirely. The victim was ultimately blocked from all communication channels with the scammers, including his XTB and Telegram accounts.
The Cybercrime police issued a public advisory to warn citizens about such online scams. Here are some key points to remember:
• Fraudsters often operate via social media platforms like Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
• They advertise fake trading apps and websites, promising high returns with no regulatory oversight from SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India).
• They lure victims with simple tactics like fake profit screenshots and initial small “gains” within the fabricated platform.
• Never trust promises of unrealistic returns.
If you suspect you are a victim of cyber financial fraud, act immediately. Here’s how to report the crime:
• Dial the National Cyber Crime Helpline number: 1930
• Visit the official cybercrime portal:
