KTR challenges Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over OU circular

KTR jibes at Congress for power shortages in Hyderabad

Hyderabad/Chanchalguda/Tarnaka: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K T Rama Rao gave an open challenge to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy regarding the veracity of the Osmania University(OU) chief warden’s circular. He demanded immediate release of Manne Krishank who was arrested by Hyderabad police on Wednesday.

Briefing the media after meeting Manne Krishank at Chanchalguda Central jail along with Krishka wife Suhasini, K T Rama Rao said, “Krishank was arrested in a frivolous case and was being harassed by the government”. He further added “It is the present Chief Minister of Telangana who has forged the Osmania University chief warden, circular but Krishank was implicated in a false case for putting out the original circular.”

He further challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy that “If the circular posted by Krishank was fake, I will go to jail. However, if it is original, will you go to jail?”

As reported earlier by the Hyderabad Mail, the controversy erupted in Osmania University after students sat in for a protest demanding for adequate supply of water in the hostels. Soon, the OU chief warden declared holidays and mentioned that there is a shortage of electricity and water facilities in the campus and asked for cooperation from students and asked the students to vacate the hostels.

How the issue turned political

The issue snowballed into a political issue, when BRS supremo KCR took the issue to X (formerly twitter) accusing the Congress government for lack of electricity. Subsequently, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy shared a circular stating that Osmania University Chief Warden declared holidays in 2023 and stated reasons such as acute shortage of electricity and water supply in that year as well. However, sharing this circular, BRS party and some of its leaders including Krishank said that it is a fake circular and in turn produced another purported letter, claiming it to be ‘original’ and accused the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of spreading ‘fake news’.

Further, the Congress government stated that it is the BRS government that put out a fake circular and said that Revanth Reddy posted the ‘original’ and filed a case on BRS social media convenor, Krishank. Following which, the chief warden of the OU hostels filed a police complaint in the OU police station. Based on the complaint OU police booked Krishank under 466 (Forgery of record of Court or of public register,), 468(Forgery for purpose of cheating), 469(Forgery for purpose of harming reputation.) 505 (1)(C)(Statements conducing to public mischief) under Indian Penal Code (IPC).
