Hyderabad: A customer discovered a deep-fried plastic cover in their chicken biryani ordered from Mehfil Restaurant’s Manikonda branch in a series of food safety violations. This incident follows a recent complaint in which another customer found a safety pin in a biryani from the same Manikonda Mehfil outlet.

Taking to ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter, Zelani S (@Zelani_A) expressed dismay, saying, “Yesterday I ordered Chicken Biryani from Mehfil and found a deep-fried plastic cover (completely fried plastic bag) in it. Unfortunately, it was at the bottom of the pack, so I had already eaten half before realizing.” @cfs_telangana was tagged in the tweet, highlighting this incident and the previous complaint about the safety pin found in food from the Manikonda Mehfil outlet.

Another customer, @AnirudhActor, reported finding a safety pin in his biryani from Mehfil Restaurant in Manikonda on June 29th. This incident comes shortly after bugs were discovered in biryani served at Mehfil’s Kukatpally branch.

Hyderabad City Police replied to the post of @AnirudhActor, stating, “Please WhatsApp Cyberabad police at 8712663061, as the mentioned location falls under their jurisdiction. @GHMCOnline.”

In a separate incident, a customer named Sai Teja warned against ordering from Mehfil’s Kukatpally branch after finding bugs in the chicken pieces. He also shared his dissatisfaction with his refund experience via Swiggy.

Meanwhile, another customer found a strand of hair in their chutney at Chutneys in AS Rao Nagar. Srikhande Umesh Kumar, Founder and President of Know Your Rights NGO, shared the unpleasant experience on social media, mentioning that while the manager acknowledged the issue and replaced the dish, it remained a negative experience.

In response to Srikhande’s complaint, authorities swiftly fined Chutneys Rs. 5,000. The Commissioner of Food Safety in Telangana took action, prompting Srikhande to appreciate their swift response while raising concerns about the TDS water level served at the restaurant.

Hyderabad: Residents of Nampally are expressing growing frustration over the pathetic condition of roads in the area, particularly the Nampally Market Road and Nilofer Hospital Road. For months, these crucial routes have remained dug up, significantly impacting daily commutes due to uneven surfaces.

The roadworks commenced in April, but residents have seen little progress in laying new pavement. This has caused immense inconvenience not only for shopkeepers in the busy Nampally market but also for commuters who rely on these roads for accessing other areas.

The slow pace of construction has exacerbated the situation, with residents yearning for a swift completion. The issue is further compounded by citizens littering plastic waste on the already uneven roads, creating an unsanitary environment.

While speaking to Hyderabad Mail, MA Ahmed, a resident, highlighted the problems faced by the community. “The construction of the Nampally Market Road has been progressing at a snail’s pace,” he said. “Ever since the road was dug up in April, the department responsible has failed to lay new road. This is a key connecting road to the main Nampally Market and other areas. The closure has severely impacted shopkeepers and commuters alike, who are eagerly waiting for its completion.”

Urging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Road department to take immediate action, Ahmed requested them to expedite the roadworks and ensure their swift completion.

He further took to social media platform ‘X’ (previously known as Twitter) to voice his concerns. The residents of Nampally anticipate that the authorities will promptly address their concerns and expedite the completion of the roadworks, ensuring smoother commutes and improved hygiene in the area.

Hyderabad: In a significant turnaround, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has withdrawn its decision to terminate the contracts of 55 faculty members and 60 non-teaching staff across its four campuses. These individuals, employed under programs funded by the Tata Education Trust (TET) for specific durations, were initially notified of their contract discontinuation due to funding constraints.

However, following constructive discussions with the Tata Education Trust (TET), the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has received assurances of financial support. The TET has committed to releasing necessary funds to cover the salaries of project and program faculty, as well as non-teaching staff.

In a letter dated June 28, 2024 (Admn/5(1) TET-Faculty & Staff/2024), addressed to all affected TET Program faculty and non-teaching staff, TISS officially retracted the termination notices. The institute has requested all staff to resume their duties immediately, assuring them that salaries will be disbursed promptly upon receipt of the TET Support Grant.

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), established in 1936 as a Deemed University and fully funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of the Government of India, is currently governed by the TISS Society in accordance with mandates from the University Grants Commission.
