Hyderabad traffic police calls on drivers to champion road safety cause

HYDERABAD: “It’s our collective responsibility to adhere to road rules for our safety,” said Hyderabad Commissioner K Sreenivasa Reddy during an awareness program held on Tuesday as part of the National Road Safety Month.

In line with the National Road Safety Month, Hyderabad Traffic Police organised an awareness program on Tuesday aimed at sensitizing auto and truck drivers about the significance of road safety, urging them to comply with traffic regulations.

The awareness session, held at Kings Palace Function Hall in Gudimalkapur, targeted auto, truck drivers, and hawkers. Present at the event was Hyderabad Police Commissioner K. Sreenivasa Reddy, Tollywood actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda, and Addl. CP Traffic P. Viswaprasad.

Welcoming the attendees, Hyderabad Traffic CP P. Viswaprasad highlighted the month-long Road Safety initiatives declared by the Government of India, involving RTA, Police, and Highway Authorities. He stressed the importance of motorists embodying the spirit of a hero and encouraged auto/truck drivers to become ‘Road Safety Heroes’ by adhering to traffic rules.

Addressing the audience, Siddhu Jonnalagadda, popularly known as DJ Tillu Film Actor, underscored the importance of this Road Safety program as a significant social cause aimed at citizen safety. He shared personal anecdotes of narrowly escaping a road accident unscathed due to the use of safety gear such as helmets and seat belts, urging all citizens to prioritize traffic safety to prevent accidents and save lives.

Hyderabad Commissioner K Srinivasa Reddy expressed confidence that the Road Safety Awareness programs would effectively reach every citizen, promoting adherence to road safety regulations to prevent accidents. He extended appreciation to various hospitals and the Rotary Club for organizing eye tests for auto/truck drivers at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Maxivision Eye Hospital, Medivision, and Indo US Hospital, commending the efforts of doctors and paramedical staff for their invaluable service.

The event also featured the release of pre-recorded auto messages on road safety by the chief guest and other dignitaries.

The program saw participation from L. Subbarayudu, DCP Traffic-I, N. Ashok Kumar, DCP Traffic-II, Addl. DCPs, Shankar Reddy, Director Rotary Club, doctors/paramedical staff of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital & Maxivision Eye Hospital, auto/truck drivers, hawkers, and officers of Hyderabad Traffic Police.
