A 25-year-old student from Hyderabad, Abdul Mohammed, who had been pursuing a Master’s in IT at Cleveland University in the United States since May 2023, went missing on March 7, leaving his family distressed. Abdul’s father, Mohammed Saleem, residing in Nacharam, received a troubling call from an unidentified individual alleging that his son had been abducted by a drug-trafficking gang in Cleveland. The caller demanded a ransom of $1200 for Abdul‘s safe return. Notably, the caller warned Saleem that if the ransom was not paid, the mafia group would resort to selling Abdul’s kidney.

Concerned relatives of Abdul in the US promptly lodged a complaint with the Cleveland police, who subsequently issued a lookout notice to aid in the search for the missing student. Additionally, on March 18, Abdul’s family reached out to the Indian Council in Chicago seeking assistance in locating him. The situation remains tense as efforts continue to trace Abdul’s whereabouts and ensure his well-being.
