Hyderabad residents demand fix for waterlogged flyovers in rainy season

Hyderabad Rain Flyover Hazards

Hyderabad: Residents of Hyderabad are raising concerns and highlighting safety hazards due to faulty flyover connections. These flaws cause waterfalls and pools of stagnant water to accumulate around pillars on the PVNR Expressway flyover whenever it rains. This stagnant water creates a major inconvenience and poses a danger to commuters who are forced to navigate through it, also leading to traffic congestion and slowdowns. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) should address this issue immediately to prevent further inconvenience in the coming days.

While speaking to Hyderabad Mail, Syed, a resident and admin of Swachhhyd on ‘X’ (or another social media platform denoted by ‘Twitter’), said, “Despite reminding the authorities a few days ago about the waterfalls forming at the PVNR Expressway Flyover, no official has taken any action. I have reported this issue on Twitter several times, highlighting the difficulties faced by commuters during the rainy season. However, despite tagging relevant authorities in my complaints, no one has addressed the problem. If they had rectified the issue earlier, yesterday’s heavy rain wouldn’t have caused so much traffic disruption.”

Cyberabad Traffic Police acknowledged the issue on their social media platform ‘X’ stating, “Traffic movement is slow near Pillar 194, PVNR Rajendranagar, due to waterlogging. As of June 23, 2024, 5:38 PM, Rajendranagar Traffic Police and GHMC are working to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.”

Shaandaar Hyderabad, the Twitter handle named Swachhhyd, countered the police statement, saying, “Despite reminding the authorities a few days back about the waterfalls forming at the PVNR Expressway Flyover, no official has taken any action. See the beautiful (sarcastic) situation at PVNR Expressway Flyover Pillar 194.”

In a previous post on ‘X,’ Shaandaar had urged the authorities to take action, stating, “#Reminder @gadwalvijayainc @GHMCOnline @HMDA_Gov. Please rectify all connections at the PVNR Expressway flyover pillars to prevent waterfalls during upcoming rains. @revanth_anumula.”
