After MP Owaisi tweet, Hyderabad police deny rumours of early shop closures

Hyderabad Police Shop Closure

Hyderabad: Recently, there has been an outcry from the citizens after an unofficial order stating that the shops and establishments be closed by 10:30am, however, now the Hyderabad city police intervened and said that it is ‘totally misleading’.

In a recent statement from their social media handle, on X, the police said, “The recent social media news making rounds that city police are closing shops by 10.30 or 11 pm are totally misleading. The shops and establishments will open/close as per the already existing rules only. Hence the same may be noted by all.”

Recently, a video also circulated on social media, where a patrolling vehicle warned the citizens not to roam on the roads after 11am by the Hyderabad Police. This was criticised by the netizens and the politicians alike.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi questioned the Hyderabad police if such an announcement be made by police in Jubilee Hills? “Whether they are Irani chai hotels or pan shops or commercial establishments, they should be allowed to remain open till 12 AM at least. In any case, there should be a uniform policy across the board. Big metros across the country allow shops to be open at night. There’s already an economic downturn. Why is it different in Hyderabad?” Following his tweet, the Hyderabad police put up a statement clarifying the same.

Not to run beyond permitted hours

However, police have asked the shops not to run beyond permitted timings. Earlier in an advisory by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Zone, Sneha Mehra IPS, said that “With respect to the recent incidents & bodily offences in our area it has been observed that Shop & Restaurants owners are running their business beyond the permitted hours, despite instructions by government: all such establishment owners are advised to close establishments as per government regulations otherwise necessary legal actions shall be taken against them.”
