Police gears up for elections

Hyderabad: With around 14,000 police force deployed for elections, Hyderabad police gears up for the parliamentary elections to be held on May 13 informed Hyderabad police commissioner K Sreenivas Reddy. Secunderabad and Hyderabad parliamentary constituencies and some parts of Malkajgiri and Chevella parliamentary constituencies will fall under the jurisdiction of Hyderabad commissionerate.

In addition to the City police, Central Armed Police Forces(CAPF) also have been deployed for election duties. The center assured to send around 22 companies of CAPF to Hyderabad. Already 6 companies of CAPF have reached the city and the remaining will land on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media, K Sreenivas Reddy said, “During Assembly elections around 41 companies of CAPF forces have been deployed in Hyderabad, However now 22 forces have been deployed. We have requested the central government to deploy more forces.”

Further Flying squad teams(FST), Statics surveillance teams(SST) have already been active in the city. “On the day of polling we will deploy two Quick reacting teams(QRT) for each police station under Hyderabad commissionerate limits. Each QRT will be under Station House officer(SHO) and Detective Inspector(DI) in a police station. Further we have 26 Assistant commissioner of police in the commissionerate limits a Special Striking Force(SSF) team will be deployed under ACPs. In addition to these around 192 pickets have to be established according to the polling stations,” said Hyderabad police commissioner.

Hyderabad readiness for elections :Three layered security for strong rooms

Briefing the media about the security arrangements for Distribution, Reception and Counting (DRC) centers Hyderabad police commissioner K Sreenivas Reddy said, “We have Sixteen DRC centers in the Hyderabad commissionerate limits. After the polling the EVMs will be shifted to these centers where a three layered security will be deployed for the protection of the centers as per the Election Commission(EC) guidelines. On the first layer will be guarded by CAPF forces deployed, in the second layer Armed Reserve(AR) force and in the third layer a local SHO will be deployed to guard the centers.

Telangana state is going for elections for 17 parliamentary constituencies including Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Malkajgiri and Chevella. Forty Five candidates from Secunderabad, Thirty candidates from Hyderabad constituency, 22 candidates from Malkajgiri and Forty three candidates from Chevella are in fray. The state is going for polling on May 13.
