Hyderabad police bust 5 online IPL betting rackets, seize Rs. 2.41 crores

HYDERABAD: In a major crackdown on illegal online cricket betting, the Cyberabad SOT Madhapur, Shamshabad, Balanagar teams jointly apprehended 5 betting rackets, leading to the arrests of 15 organisers and bookies across various locations in Cyberabad Commissionerate, seizing Rs. 2,41,06,767/- in the process.

Acting on reliable information targeted individuals involved in organising online cricket betting during the ongoing IPL-2024 matches, the police officials took swift action. In the first case, at Shamshabad, the accused identified as Pondhuri Suresh(42), Mothkupally Rama Krishna Reddy (30), were apprehended for orchestrating online betting through various websites and apps. On enquiry, Suresh revealed that absconding Ramanjaneyulu is the main organiser, who conducted betting activities involving 350 punters, with investments totaling around 4.5 crores. However, the seized amount from this operation only amounted to Rs. 79,99,739/-, along with other assets and investments.

In another raid at Mallampet Village, the police apprehended  four individuals for organising betting through the app threeexch.com, and seized Rs. 1,21,575/- along with smartphones, laptops and other materials worth Rs. 4,84,000/-. During the police investigation, they revealed that Kalyan, resident of Bheemavaram, is the main organiser.

In Case-III, the Madhapur SOT apprehended 4 bookies, and seized a huge amount of Rs. 1,44,00,273/-, along with various materials and assets such as smartphones, laptops, and even a Benz car. The investigations further revealed that the main organisers, including Rajesh Reddy, Suresh Reddy @ Shankar Reddy, Nagarajuna Reddy, and Sadiq, who are currently absconding, made investments totaling around Rs. 15,40,86,750/- through various sub-bookies on websites like www.londonexch.com, www.nationalexchange9.co, and www.ukexch24.com.

In a separate case, at Balanagar, two bookies, identified as Yerramachu Ajay Kumar, and Anadula Mahesh Kumar were apprehended, and after questioning they revealed Naresh @ Nani as the main organiser. The seized amount from this operation totaled Rs. 93,534/-, along with other assets totaling to Rs.1,04,534/-

Three bookies were also apprehended at Sainagar, Bachupally, for organising online cricket betting through the AVATAR app & Radhe Exchange for ongoing IPL-2024. The main organisers, who are absconding, were identified as Nilesh and Budda Reddy on further enquiry. The seized amount from this operation amounted to Rs. 13,30,146/-, along with various other material assets.

The successful operations were carried out under the guidance and supervision of Sri. D. Srinivas, DCP, SOT, Cyberabad, along with other senior officers. To combat illegal betting activities, the Police have urged citizens to report any similar activities through Dial 100 or Cyberabad’s WhatsApp Mobile Number 9490617444, with assured confidentiality.
