Hyderabad authorities coordinate multi-agency efforts for peaceful Bakrid festival in city

Hyderabad: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced the activation of the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) Service starting from July 15 (Monday), 2024. This move aims to enhance transparency and user convenience by eliminating the need for third-party applications like TrueCaller to identify callers.

Previously, users relied on apps like TrueCaller to identify calls from unknown numbers. However, concerns have been raised regarding eye strain and the access such apps require to phone data, including call details and contacts.

TRAI’s Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service addresses these concerns by displaying caller information directly on the phone screen during an incoming call. This eliminates the need for additional applications and grants users greater control over their data.

Established in 1997, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is mandated to regulate telecommunication services, protect the interests of service providers and consumers, and promote the orderly growth of the sector in India. Safeguarding consumer interests is a top priority for the Authority.

According to reports from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India currently holds the title of the world’s second-largest telecommunications market. As of September 30, 2022, the country boasted a staggering 114.55 crore wireless subscribers and 2.65 crore wireline subscribers. The last two decades have witnessed remarkable growth in India’s telecommunication sector.

Hyderabad: Following the criticism by Dr Abby Philips, popularly known as the Liver Doc on actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu for suggesting an alternative medicine, Samantha reacted to it by saying that Liver doc would have invited her doctor for a debate, rather than going after her. Meanwhile, in a response, the Liver doc has accused Samantha of being a serial offender in the context of healthcare misinformation.

In Samantha’s response, she said, “A certain gentleman has attacked my post and my intentions with rather strong words. Said gentleman is a doctor too. I have no doubt that he knows more than I do. And I am quite sure his intentions were noble. It would have been kind and compassionate of him had he not been so provocative with his words. Especially the bit where he suggests I should be thrown in prison.”

She further said, “Doctor, it would have been nice had he politely invited my doctor, whom I have tagged in my post, rather than go after me. I would have loved to have learnt from that debate and discussion between two highly qualified professionals.”

Liver Doc response

Addressing Samantha, Liver doc responded, “She is a serial offender in the context of healthcare misinformation and she has been in the line of fire previously too. The reason why doctors like me have to spend(waste) time from our busy schedules to fight misinformation online is because it is peddled by large influential ‘celebrity’ accounts that have no regard for public health. Engagement and monetisation is their concern, Public health and disease prevention is mine. I will be provocative, strongly criticize, be blatant, and brutal with facts because we have no time to waste, catering to emotions.”

He further added, “I expected better from someone who claims that she wants to “improve”. This is far from improvement. A rational and logical response would be to delete the public health endangering posts and apologize to her millions of followers and vouch to never quote or cite fraudulent practices or practitioners.”

Samantha defends her post, says suggested by doctor

Further, defending her post, Samantha said, “This treatment was suggested to me by a highly qualified doctor who is an MD, who has served DRDP for 25 years. He, after all his education in conventional medicine, chose to advocate an alternate therapy.”

Samantha also added that she would be more careful and said, “my intentions are only to help others. Not to harm anyone.”

Liver doc slams actor Samantha for spreading ‘dangerous’ health misinformation

Hyderabad: Street lights along the stretch between Majestic Garden and Karachi Bakery in Shaikpet, Hyderabad, are currently not functioning, causing inconvenience to both pedestrians and commuters.

The public has expressed concern regarding safety hazards arising from the lack of proper lighting, urging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to address the issue promptly to prevent accidents and other untoward situations.

Shaandaar, a Twitter user with the handle @Swachhhyd, highlighted the problem by tagging the GHMC’s official account and the GHMC Commissioner’s handle in a tweet saying, “Street lights not working from Majestic Garden to Karachi Bakery Shaikpet on both sides of the road. This needs your attention and accountability. In the meantime, a request to Hyderabadis: Please pay your taxes and file your income tax return before the due date.”

The GHMC acknowledged the tweet and replied, “Dear citizen, your concern is noted and has been forwarded to the EESL Zonal Incharge overseeing street light maintenance. We will update you on the status soon.”

While speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Sai Teja, a Civic and Anti-Corruption Activist, emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of streetlight maintenance and installation procedures across Telangana. He urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the GHMC to consider the dangers posed by malfunctioning street lights, particularly the increased risk of crime and accidents in poorly lit areas.
