Holmes Chapel Zoo directors hail Hyderabad Zoo for efficient management

HYDERABAD: Melissa Mews and Ben Mews, the founders and directors of Holmes Chapel Zoo in England, visited Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad on Friday as part of their 12-day tour programme to India aimed at studying various aspects of zoo management in India.

Upon their arrival at Nehru Zoological Park, they were warmly welcomed by Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath, Director and Curator, and P. Raghuveer, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Retired).

The visit commenced with a tour of the park, encompassing attractions such as animal enclosures, the safari complex, the mouse deer breeding center, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center, reptile house, and nocturnal animal house.

During their tour, the zoo curator delivered a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, providing insights into zoo management practices, recent development initiatives, and the zoo’s breeding program achievements. Melissa and Ben Mews expressed their admiration for the efficient management system led by the zoo curator.

They also hailed the veterinary wing for its exemplary care of the zoo’s diverse array of wildlife, consisting of 2,221 individuals across 194 species. The meticulous maintenance of animal keeper diaries and history sheets was particularly noted for its thoroughness.
