During the investigation, Sriram admitted that he lost control after hearing Sona mention her break-up celebration. He had previously threatened her with death if she refused to marry him. Sriram attacked her with a knife, stabbing her multiple times, even as she fell to the ground.
The court at the Old Bailey in London heard the details of Sriram’s online searches and the violent attack. The judge handed down a 16-year prison sentence for the crime. How the London killing took place?

On March 5, 2022, 23-year-old Sriram Ambarla from Hyderabad stabbed his ex-girlfriend, 23-year-old Sona Biju from Kerala, at Hyderabad Wala restaurant in London.

Sona Biju, a part-time employee at the restaurant, treated Sriram like any other customer, serving him food as he arrived and ordered. While seated, he made disturbing searches on his phone.

Prosecutor Ben Holt told the court there were a number of searches about ‘killing a human’. They included: ‘What happens if a foreigner murders in the UK’, ‘how to kill human with a knife’, ‘how easy is it to kill someone with a knife’, and ‘how to kill someone instantly with a knife’.

Ambarla told police he snapped after overhearing her saying she wanted to celebrate her break-up. The victim said he threatened to kill her if she did not marry him, and told him ‘she did not want to live by his rules’. It was at this point he pulled out the knife and stabbed her repeatedly, continuing even as she collapsed to the floor.

They met at college in Hyderabad in 2017 and were in a relationship in India. However, the relationship deteriorated, and she ended it. They both arrived in the UK in February 2022 as master’s students at the University of East London.
