HYDERABAD: A cleanup will be held at Golconda Fort, located in Hyderabad, on June 9 (Sunday) from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the occasion of World Environment Day.

Madhulika, the founder of the Dhruvansh NGO, initiated the Golconda Fort cleanup. This cleanup will be organised in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India. Axis Bank sponsors the event, which carries the slogans ‘My Earth, My Responsibility’ and ‘My Garbage, My Responsibility.’

While speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Dhruvansh NGO Founder Madhulika stated, “This year, on World Environment Day 2024, the Dhruvansh organisation plans to raise awareness about garbage and the protection of natural and architectural heritages.”

Madhulika emphasised, “It’s not just about our rights as citizens; it’s about our shared responsibility. Let’s come together, act, and fulfil our duties as citizens. By doing so, we can ensure that our heritage is not just cleaned and restored but also protected for the future.”

Madhulika underscored the importance of these sites, saying, “These sites hold significant historical and cultural value. By cleaning and preserving them, we ensure that future generations can appreciate and learn from them. Moreover, lakes and forts are often integral to the ecosystem and biodiversity of the surrounding area. Cleaning them helps maintain the balance of nature.”

“Promoting tourism is also a part of this cleanup. Clean and well-maintained heritage sites will attract more tourists, increasing revenue and support for local economies. Restored heritage sites become a source of community pride and identity. Heritage sites are a nation’s legacy, and cleaning and preserving them ensures their protection for future generations,” added Madhulika.

She explained that maintaining clean and well-preserved heritage sites would create educational field trips and experiential learning opportunities. Madhulika added that cleaning and preserving heritage sites demonstrates respect for our ancestors.

Instructions for participants: Gloves and garbage will be provided. Please wear shoes and caps. Don’t forget to bring masks, water bottles, and sunscreen. Above all, do not damage any property.
