GHMC summer coachings sees highest footfall in Hyderabad this year

Hyderabad:This year’s Summer coaching camp of Greater Hyderabad Municipal corporation (GHMC) saw the highest footfall compared to the last two years, revealed the data by GHMC. Summer coaching camp primarily aimed at children of age group in between 6-16 years is a huge hit among the Hyderabadis.

Around 53,000 children enrolled in the Summer coaching camp this year compared to 42,214 and 18,816 in 2023 and 2022 respectively. Summer coaching camp was conducted across the GHMC limits consisting of six zones namely Khairatabad, Charminar, Secunderabad, Kukatpally, Serilingampally and LB nagar zone in 915 centres across the city.

“GHMC, each summer has continued its tradition of providing the best sporting skills, basic fundamentals to advanced skills and strategies to nearly 53,000 young boys and girls in the twin cities and keeping them occupied during their holidays,” said GHMC in an official statement.

1.7 crore budget for improvement of infrastructure

Coaching camp for a variety of sporting activities in 44 events organised in 29 spacious multi sports complexes, 13 swimming pools and 521 playgrounds. Further to boost up the infrastructure facilities the Commissioner, GHMC had sanctioned Rs.1.7crores for the play and Sports material required for the Summer coaching camp. In addition to the infrastructure facilities, it utilised the expertise of a workforce of 77 part time Coaches, 76 swimming coaches cum lifeguards and nearly 800 other honorarium coaches.

Summer coaching camps of GHMC is the brainchild of late L Venkatram Reddy, former director of sports of the then Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad in 1968. Since then the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is conducting Summer Coaching camps in tune with the motto of “Catch em Young”.

The camp which was planned for 37 days, started from 25 April and is supposed to end on 31 May, has been extended for another 10 days and it will close on June 10. The summer camps became the most sought-after event for young boys and girls in the city. Some of them even went on to represent the State and the country in various tournaments as well.
