GHMC collects Rs. 820 crores tax through Early Bird scheme

HYDERABAD: Achieving a remarkable feat, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has managed to break all its previous records and collected a whooping Rs.800 crores through Early Bird rebate scheme, that offers 5 percent rebate to those who pay their taxes early. Under the Early Bird Scheme, all the previous year’s figures were surpassed by an outstanding margin. This year, GHMC has collected over 34.16 Crores more in property tax compared to the previous fiscal year, said the GHMC in an official note that it released on Tuesday night.

This year GHMC has collected a total of Rs.820Crs, and around 7.27Lakhs tax payers have availed the Early Bird rebate(5%) upto 9:00 pm on April 30. Property tax collection for the year 2023-24 under Early Bird Scheme is Rs.785.84Crs. This scheme was introduced on April 1, 2024 during the beginning of the financial year in Hyderabad by the GHMC.

GHMC is surprised to see the last minute collections, highlighting the sheer magnitude of last-minute collections, GHMC said that it has recorded over 96.61 Crores on the final day alone, underscoring the collective effort and commitment of both taxpayers and GHMC officials. “This has been achieved despite the fact that it has largely been an election year with the Bill Collectors and Tax Inspectors playing crucial election duties such as BLOs and BLO supervisors,” said GHMC.

GHMC also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of Bill Collectors, Tax Inspectors, Assistant Municipal Commissioners (AMCs), Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Zonal Commissioners (ZCs) and thanked them for their tireless efforts have been instrumental in achieving this historic feat.

“The GHMC expresses its gratitude to all taxpayers for their cooperation and compliance, which have been instrumental in this remarkable feat. The corporation remains committed to its mission of enhancing civic amenities and infrastructure through sustainable revenue generation,” said the official note.
