Shamshabad: The elusive Leopard which kept the Rajiv Gandhi International(RGI) Airport authorities and forest department officials on tenterhooks was at last caught on Friday, bringing relief to the airport authorities and locals living in nearby areas. Earlier, Leopard was sighted by airport authorities on the runway of RGIA,Samshabad.

Going further into the details, the leopard which created panic at the Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport in Shamshabad for over a week was first sighted by airport security personnel on duty when the leopard was trying to jump over the fence of the airport. Alarmed by the security alerts, airport authorities analyzed the CCTV footage and confirmed the presence of leopard and they then informed the Telangana forest officials.

Forest officials who jumped into action started analyzing the CCTV footage that are available in the nearby areas, including the airport authorities to spot the leopard and analyze its movements. Preliminary investigation by the forest officials established the presence of leopard and further through CCTV footage officials established that it came to a nearby water hole. Further in case of emergency, the Forest department dispatched a rescue team, with a vehicle near Airport to capture the animal.

Caught in the cage

According to the reports, forest officials established around five cages and 20 camera traps to catch the movements of the leopard at various strategic locations. On Friday wee hours the leopard was caught in one of the cages put up by the forest department falling for the bait. Further efforts are underway to relocate the leopard. Forest department officials and Nehru zoological park are overseeing the rescue operation.

The airport authorities have also alerted the air passengers and all the safety measures are being taken place in order to avoid any untoward incident. Meanwhile, the Forest department issued an advisory to locals of nearby villages to take precautions especially in the evening and early morning hours.
