Food safety violations uncover at JNTU, Sultanpur

Food safety violations JNTU

Hyderabad: A task force from the Commissioner of Food Safety and the ‘Food Safety on Wheels’ vehicle inspected JNTU, Sultanpur, Sangareddy, on June 28 and uncovered several violations. This comes just days after violations were found at Sri Sri Caterers (JNTU College Canteen), JNTU Campus in Kukatpally.

Food safety officials reported that 15kg of Maida was infested with black beetles, which were subsequently discarded. Additionally, 25kg of vegetables were found to be affected by fungal infestation and were also discarded due to safety concerns.

The inspection revealed that the store room at the premises was unhygienic, with evidence of rodents and excessive rat excreta. Furthermore, the kitchen, wash area, and dining area were observed to be in unsanitary conditions. Food handlers were found without necessary head caps, aprons, and medical records, raising further concerns about hygiene practices.

Similar violations were noted on June 26 at Sri Sri Caterers (JNTU College Canteen), JNTU Campus in Kukatpally. Officials highlighted issues such as improper FSSAI licensing and lapses in hygiene practices among food handlers. They noted that semi-prepared food articles and cut vegetables were improperly stored without adequate labeling.

The kitchen premises were found to be unsanitary, with food waste disposed of directly on the floor. Additionally, the kitchen lacked essential insect-proof screens, and doors were not properly sealed to prevent pest entry. Medical fitness certificates and pest control records were also found to be unavailable during the inspection.

Expired food items were found during both inspections and promptly discarded to prevent potential health risks. Notices have been issued to the establishments in question, and authorities have indicated that further actions will be taken following food safety regulations.
