Task Force inspections reveal food safety violations in Masab Tank, Kondapur

KONDAPUR: The Task Force team of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), along with the GHMC Food Safety officers inspected the Big Basket warehouse at Masjid Banda in Kondapur on Friday.

Big Basket faces license suspension over warehouse food safety concerns

According to reports, expired chicken masala, chicken sausages, pizza cheese, paneer, ice cream, and almond fudge with expiry dates ranging from October 2023 to April 2024 were found. The inspection revealed a serious issue of edible oil leakage, which contaminated other food articles on the lower rack and posed a potential health hazard, said the Commissioner of Food Safety. They added that they found 10 milk bottles, 5 thick shake bottles, and 50 sting tin bottles kept outside the manufacturer’s storage conditions. They also said the food and non-food items were stored in the BigBasket Warehouse.

The Commissioner of Food Safety said that because of the above violations, notice has been issued, and the warehouse’s license has been suspended until further orders.

Paradise Food Court compliance

The task force inspected Paradise Food Court on Friday. A true copy of the FSSAI license was displayed at the billing counter, said the Food Safety officers.The authorities mentioned that food handlers wore hair caps and gloves and had medical fitness certificates. The officials mentioned that raw materials, semi-prepared foods, and prepared foods were covered and labeled properly as per FSSAI regulations.The food business operator (FBO) maintained pest control records and Dhaara Brand packaged water bottles with TDS levels of 73 ppm. The Commissioner of Food Safety reported that samples were sent to the lab for analysis.

Lebanese Bites non-compliance

The team found synthetic food colors in the kitchen and discarded them on the spot. They found that the semi-prepared and raw food articles were stored together without proper labeling and covering. The FBO lacked medical fitness certificates and pest control records. Dustbins were open without proper lids. The Commissioner of Food Safety revealed that the true copy of the FSSAI license was not displayed on the premises.

Chicha’s Asli Hyderabadi Khana violations.

The inspection revealed synthetic food colors in the kitchen of Chicha’s Asli Hyderabadi Khana, which were discarded immediately. The establishment operated with a registration instead of a state license. Veggie and non-veg, raw, and semi-prepared food were stored without proper labels and coverings.Kitchen windows lacked proper mesh or barriers to prevent pest entry. The FBO did not have medical fitness certificates or pest control records, said The Commissioner of Food Safety.
