Erragadda Rythu Bazaar grapples with trash woes

Erragadda Rythu Bazaar Trash Issue

Hyderabad: Visitors to the Erragadda Model Rythu Bazaar have expressed their inconvenience at encountering a large garbage dump at the market, which the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) does not clean regularly.

The presence of the garbage dump at Erragadda Model Rythu Bazaar not only leads to environmental degradation, contamination, and health concerns but also poses a significant threat to the local economy, a fact that cannot be overlooked.

While speaking with Hyderabad Mail, MA Ahmed, a visitor to the Rythu Bazaar, described his experience, stating, “As I strolled through the Rythu Bazaar in Erragadda at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, I was taken aback by the significant amount of waste. The market, known for its vibrant trade, unfortunately also sees a regular influx of garbage. Rotten vegetables and fruits were carelessly discarded by vendors. What troubled me the most was the prevalence of plastic and polythene, with their known detrimental effects on the environment. Not only does this pose a risk to public health, but it becomes especially concerning during the monsoon season.”

Ahmed mentioned that the unattended daily waste is causing a lot of inconvenience at Rythu Bazaar in Erragadda.

MA Ahmed, the visitor, has not only highlighted the problem but also proposed a viable solution. He suggests that the waste could be used to produce vermicompost, a sustainable opportunity that could help alleviate the environmental crisis at the Erragadda Model Rythu Bazaar.

Krishna Chaitanya, a concerned citizen, raised a pertinent question: “I heard that Seri Lingampally markets practice wet composting. Why is this practice not implemented in all vegetable/fruit markets and Rythu Bazaars? This stark contrast in waste management practices highlights the need for immediate change and improvement.”

MA Ahmed, the visitor to Rythu Bazaar, took to Twitter and posted, “Rythu bazaar Erragadda needs garbage clearance causing inconvenience @GHMCOnline @NeelimaEaty @revathitweets @THHyderabad @ActivistTeja @swachhhyd @Ilovehyderabad @AmitLeliSlayer @amksocialwork @HiHyderabad @anusha_puppala.”
