Narsingi: In a tragic accident, recklessness of an intoxicated driver led to the overturning of a private bus resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to several others on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Alkehya Homes on Sunday late night.

The Narsingi police identified the person driving the bus as Govinda Reddy. Further the investigation revealed that Mamatha, a woman traveling in the bus, had fallen and succumbed to her injuries.

According to the Narsingi police, the bus operated by Morning Star Travels bearing registration number PYO5A1999, was traveling from Gachibowli when it met with the accident. When enquired with the passengers on board they informed that the accident occurred due to rash and careless driving of the bus driver.

On suspicion that driver might be under the influence of alcohol when police conducted the A Breathalyzer Test With the help of ORR patrol on the driver, Govinda Reddy’s tests showed a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 187 mg/100 ml, well above the legal limit of 30 mg/100 ml. After confirmation that Reddy was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The police booked a case.

“Even knowing that driving under the influence of alcohol causes an accident and endangers the lives of people, the driver of the bus carrying passengers under the influence of alcohol caused this accident and the death of Mamatha,” stated Narsingi police of Cyberabad commissionerate. The Narsingi police booked a case under Section 304(II) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for and Section 185(a) of the Motor Vehicles Act for driving under the influence of alcohol.

It is pertinent to note that with the increase in alcohol impairment related crashes in Cyberabad commissionerate limits, Cyberabad traffic police led a large-scale enforcement against intoxicated drivers in commissionerate limits and apprehended 385 offenders Saturday night.Further four individuals were found with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) as high as 550 mg/100 ml, significantly above the legal limit 30 mg/ 100 ml.
