HYDERABAD: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on Tuesday conducted a raid at a quack’s clinic in Chandrayangutta, Bandlaguda, Hyderabad and seizes drugs worth Rs. 1,02,000 stocked for sale.

Acting on credible information, officials of the Drugs Control Administration raided the premises of Imran Khan, a self-proclaimed ‘Rural Medical Practitioner’, on February 12, 2024, at Rahmath Colony, Chandrayangutta, Bandlaguda, Hyderabad. Khan was found practicing medicine without proper qualifications at his clinic.

During the raid, officials discovered a substantial stock of medicines stored at the premises without a valid drug license. The seized medicines, totaling 30 varieties including antibiotics, analgesics, anti-ulcer drugs, antihypertensives, and antidiabetics, were valued at Rs. 1,02,000.

The inspection also revealed the presence of several higher-generation ‘antibiotic injections’ at the clinic. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by an unqualified individual poses significant risks to public health, including the potential emergence of Antimicrobial Resistance.

The raid was conducted by T. Rajamouli, Assistant Director, Hyderabad, along with B. Lakshmi, Drugs Inspector, Charminar, and Swapna, Drugs Inspector in Jubilee Hills.

Samples of the seized drugs were collected for further analysis. Further investigation will be conducted, and appropriate legal action will be taken against all offenders.

Wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unqualified individuals who stock and sell drugs without a proper license are also liable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Wholesalers and dealers will face strict actions for failing to ensure valid drug licenses for recipients before supplying medicines, said DCA officials.

Surprise checks were intensified on individuals lacking proper qualifications who engage in stocking and selling drugs without a valid drug license. Stringent legal action will be taken against violators in accordance with the law.
