Hyderabad: In a continued effort to curb dangerous driving practices, Cyberabad Traffic Police cracked down on wrong-side driving on June 25 (Tuesday), registering 10 FIRs and stopping 76 vehicles across various locations in Cyberabad.

Earlier on June 22, Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP) apprehended 385 offenders for driving under the influence of alcohol and registered 22 FIRs against 114 vehicles for wrong-side driving in various locations across Cyberabad.

Due to the increase in alcohol-related crashes within Cyberabad Commissionerate limits, Cyberabad traffic police conducted a large-scale enforcement drive against intoxicated drivers on Saturday night, apprehending 385 offenders. Among those apprehended were 292 two-wheelers, 11 three-wheelers, 80 four-wheelers, and 2 heavy vehicle drivers. The IT corridor, known for its bustling traffic, accounted for 182 of the offenders. It is pertinent to note that four individuals were found with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) as high as 550 mg/100 ml, significantly above the legal limit 30 mg/ 100 ml.

Further, the Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP) registered 22 FIRs against 114 vehicles for wrong-side driving in various locations across Cyberabad. This follows a continued effort to curb this dangerous practice. As of June 22nd, the CTP has registered a total of 122 FIRs and apprehended 631 vehicles for wrong-side driving offences.

Earlier Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police Traffic, D. Joel Davis warned about the menace of alcohol impairment driving and said, “Drunk driving and unauthorized driving have been major causes of road crashes and fatalities in Cyberabad. We have been taking stringent legal action against such violators.” In light of the increasing road accidents due to drunk driving, the police have begun to act strictly against such drivers, he added.

If anybody indulges in driving under the influence of alcohol and cause accidents killing people, such persons will be arrested and sent to jail under section 304 part II of IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) for which maximum punishment is 10 years of jail said Cyberabad traffic police in an official statement.
