Cyberabad police seize Rs 2.15 crore worth fake cigarettes, arrest four suspects

SHAMSHABAD: The Cyberabad police, including the SOT Rajendra Nagar and RGIA police, arrested four individuals on Thursday and seized counterfeit cigarettes of various brands worth Rs 2.15 crore from their possession.

The 267 seized cartons of banned cigarettes were reportedly transported to Hyderabad from Bihar. The counterfeit cigarettes were reportedly hidden within bags disguised as detergent powder loads, then illicitly transported from Bihar through Patna to Hyderabad via a container truck.

The police arrested transporter Ravikanth Kumar (Bihar), truck driver Mohammad Shahzad (Haryana), Syed Iliyasuddin, truck driver and local transporter (Shahalibanda), and Rehan Khan (Kishanbagh), and the fifth accused, Subhash (Bihar), is currently absconding.

A case has been registered at RGIA police station, and further investigation is underway.
