Cyberabad:   The Cyber Crime sleuths in Cyberabad apprehended 23-year old Maram Ashok Reddy S/o Maram Govind Reddy for matrimonial fraud and extortion.

Case Details:

This case involves “Matrimonial Fraud.” The accused created a fake user ID, “Praneetha_redd,” on SnapChat. He posed as a woman and sent a request to the victim. The fraudster extorted ₹14 lakhs by pretending to have urgent needs. The police registered a complaint and investigated the matter.

Modus Operandi:

The fraudster created a fake SnapChat profile under the name Praneetha Reddy. He approached the victim as a girl and initiated a virtual relationship. He deceived the victim with promises of friendship, love, and marriage. The accused sent pictures to build trust. He fabricated urgent needs and exploited this trust to extract money. The victim was ensnared in a web of deceit, later realizing the betrayal.

Accused Used Extorted Money for Online Gambling

The accused used the extorted money to play online games and bet on various platforms. The gaming and betting applications include Silverbet777.com, 99Exch.com, Teen Pathi Gold, 1X Bet, Bet Winner, Dash Rummy, and Melbet.

Ashok Reddy involved in 3 cases. They are

1. Case 2587/2024 under Sections 419, 420, 506 IPC and Sec 66 (C&D) of IT Act at Cyber Crime PS, Cyberabad.
2. Case 2716/2023 under Section 420 IPC and Sec 66 D of IT Act at Cyber Crime PS, Cyberabad.
3. Case 2343/2024 under Section 420 and Sec 66-D of IT Act at Cyber Crime PS, Cyberabad.

The police seized one mobile device and SIM cards used in the crime.
