Cyberabad police announces Rs. 1,000 fine after selfie tragedy at Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge

MADHAPUR: The Cyberabad police announced on Monday a fine of Rs. 1,000 for obstructing traffic on the Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge in Hyderabad. This decision follows a tragic incident in which a youngster lost his life when a vehicle collided with him while he was taking a selfie on the bridge with a friend.

Birthday celebrations on the Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge are now prohibited, effective immediately after the incident on April 6, 2024. The Cyberabad police have also installed signage indicating the fines.

In a video statement, the Cyberabad police urged citizens to refrain from obstructing traffic on the cable bridge. Law enforcement officials, seen marching on the bridge, emphasised the dangerous trend of commuters obstructing traffic for selfies, photographs, and birthday celebrations, which have led to accidents.To avoid accidents due to these reasons, Cyberabad Police announced Rs.1000 fine on cable bridge for obstructing traffic.

The incident occurred on April 6, 2024, when a speeding car tragically struck 27-year-old Anil Kumar as he was taking a selfie with his friend Ajay on the Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge. Anil Kumar passed away early on April 7, 2024 due to his injuries, while Ajay is still undergoing treatment.
