Kidnapped Corporator Was Arrested By Cyber Crime Police For Spreading Fake News.

In a dramatic turn of events, the Malkajgiri corporator, Shravan who went missing was indeed arrested by CyberCrime police for allegedly spreading a fake news stating that rigging is happening in a Bahadurpura polling booth by the MIM party in Old City. However, the video predates Telangana parliamentary elections and is from 2022 in West Bengal.

Earlier, a CCTV footage has gone viral, stating that the Malkajgiri corporator was lifted by unknown persons from BJP office. The family members worried that the corporator got ‘kidnapped’. However, now it is revealed that he was taken by hyderabad cybercrime police.

Regarding this incident, a police constable working with Hyderabad cyber crime filed a suomoto complaint on May 15, 2024. In the complaint copy, the constable stated that “While I was browsing Social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook as a part of our social media surveillance, I came across one video in which one person in a polling station was voting multiple times and saying that this incident was happened at one of the Polling stations in Bahadurpura (Old city), Hyderabad in the recent Lok Sabha elections held on May 13, 2024. However the alleged video was an old video recorded during West Bengal elections held in 2022.”

The complaint copy further stated that “This video is going viral in various social media platforms due to which the common public would lose hope and confidence in the electoral system in India. Some persons are sharing this old video of West Bengal elections and circulating fake information that rigging happened at Old city, Hyderabad.”

Election Commission issues official note that the video is fake

Earlier a video was circulated on social media platforms, which forced the Election Commission to release a statement that this is a fake.

In the purported video, one can see a person standing near an electronic voting machine and is allegedly voting on behalf of other voters in the presence of a polling agent sitting nearby. This video was circulated with a claim stating rigging is happening in Bahadurpura Constituency by MIM.

However, this video reportedly originated from West Bengal and was initially shared by TV9 Bangla on their YouTube channel in the year 2022. At that time, the state of West Bengal was going through municipal polls.
