Hyderabad: The crisis in Osmania University hostels took a political turn in Hyderabad with a series of top politicians exchanging words on the issue. Recently, the Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy joined the bandwagon, as he responded via X on Tuesday morning. In his response, the Chief Minister said, the former chief minister, K Chandrashekar Rao and BRS founder is spreading misinformation.

Revanth said, “Day before yesterday in Suryapet, yesterday in Mahbubnagar and today about Osmania University, KCR is trying to spread false information into the public with all his might.”

Revanth further attached a circular from 2023, released by the Osmania University chief warden, regarding the summer holidays, which also mentions shortage of electricity and water supply. Commenting on this, Revanth said, “In 2023, when KCR was the chief minister, it was the same situation in Osmania University. The OU chief warden has issued a similar circular declaring one month holidays from May 12 to June 5, 2023 for the hostels and messes mentioning about shortage of electricity and water.”

Revanth further criticised the KCR and warned him not to make any such statements as if only in Congress government that the Osmania University came to a position of closure. “All these kinds of propaganda indicates how low KCR could go,” added Revanth.

What’s happening in OU?

Osmania University is garnering attention in recent times, after students sat for a protest highlighting the water crisis. Followed by the protest, OU chief warden declared holidays from May 1 to May 30 and mentioned about the shortage of water and electricity and asked students to cooperate. However, it took a political turn when the BRS founder, KCR took this issue up on his social media handle, X and posted about this criticising the Congress government for shortage of electricity. Soon, the deputy Chief Minister, Batti Vikramarkha roped in and said that students can stay in hostels and facilities would be provided as per the requirement.
