Hyderabad police nab chain snatcher, recover gold chain

Malkpet: The sleuths of the Commissioner’s Task Force, South-East Zone team along with Malakpet Police apprehended bike born chain snatcher who snatched a chain from an octogenarian and escaped from the spot on Sunday. The police have recovered Gold weighing about 40 Grams, a bike used in the commission of offence and other all worth of 3.5 lakhs from the accused possession.

The police identified the arrested accused chain snatcher as Gatadi Sai kumar and the receiver Sriram Srinivas owner of Balaji Jewelers, Armoor, Nizamabad,

According to the police the accused Gatadi Sai Kumar, hailing from Nizamabad migrated to Hyderabad and living in saroornagar for better livelihood. The accused used to work as a professional ladies’ hairdresser and occasionally as a rider for Rapido.

“As his earnings were insufficient to support his lavish lifestyle, leading him to hatch a plan for chain snatching. After conducting reconnaissance in isolated areas, he selected a spot near Mumtaz College Road, Malakpet. On last Tuesday (June 18, 2024) at around 9:00 PM, he snatched a gold chain from an elderly woman and fled on his Honda Activa, which had no number plate” said Hyderabd police in an official statement.

Subsequently a chain snatching case was booked at Malakpet Police Station. Malakpet booked a case under section 392 (robbery) and started investigation.

Investigation revealed that that same day, the accused Sai kumar traveled to his hometown, Armoor, and sold the stolen gold chain to Sriram Srinivas (the receiver) for Rs. 1.3lakhs .The accused was identified through CCTV footage and technical clues.

The above accused persons were apprehended under the supervision of Ande Srinivasa Rao, Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police, Task Force, Hyderabad, by D. Venkat Reddy, Inspector of Police, South-East Zone Task Force, and Sub Inspectors P. Sairam, Sk. Kaviuddin and the team of South-East Zone Task Force along with Malakpet Police.
