BRS accuses Tamilisai Soundararajan of violating Model Code of Conduct

HYDERABAD: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana against former Telangana Governor and BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan for distributing replicas of the Ayodhya Ram temple at MLA Colony in Secunderabad on Wednesday.

The party demanded her immediate exclusion from future election campaigns. And also the disqualification of BJP Secunderabad MP candidate G Kishan Reddy. The BRS alleged that Soundararajan’s distribution of replicas violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and Section 123 (3) of the Representation of People Act.

“The said act is against the law in force (MCC) and has left open the void of causing public agitation and communal disharmony. Tamilisai Soundararajan has committed the offense defined in this section,” said BRS.

The party claimed that her actions compromised the integrity of elections by exploiting religious sentiments to sway voters towards a specific party and candidate. BRS general secretary M Sreenivas Reddy accused Soundararajan of disregarding directives and using religious grounds to promote the BJP and its candidate by distributing the replicas for political advantage.

Soundararajan, the BJP candidate for the Chennai South Lok Sabha constituency, is a key campaigner for her party in Telangana and engaged in campaigning on behalf of Kishan Reddy to engage with the Tamil community in Hyderabad.
