Begumpet residents raise concerns over sanitation crisis

Begumpet Sanitation Crisis

Begumpet: Residents of Begumpet’s Ward 149 are facing a mounting sanitation crisis, with unattended garbage and debris piling up every 10 meters along the BRS Party office lane up to the Masjid. This growing problem has residents worried, particularly as the monsoon season brings the threat of viral disease spread.

While speaking to Hyderabad Mail, M Ahmed a resident said that, “The frequent presence of unattended garbage and debris along the lane, occurring roughly every 10 meters up to the Masjid. This lack of cleanliness, especially during the monsoon season, raises concerns about potential health risks.”

“Our entire locality is plagued by unattended trash,” Ahmed said. “Sweeping only happens every four days, and it’s often inadequate. Yesterday, I requested a sweeper to remove some accumulated dirt, but she simply ignored me. When I mentioned filing a complaint, she became argumentative.”

Ahmed further criticized the apparent lack of accountability from local authorities. “Despite having the Begumpet ward office just meters away, there seems to be no inspection or proper reporting system in place. This problem isn’t limited to our lane; neighbouring areas like Patigadda and Prakash Nagar suffer similarly. This is just a small part of Begumpet, near the Old Airport. Unless the GHMC Commissioner and Zonal Commissioner pay a visit and take action, this situation is unlikely to improve.”

Ahmed has also raised the issue on social media, tagging relevant authorities like GHMC, local Commissionerates, and sanitation initiatives, urging them to address the problem.

Srinivas, the Sanitation Officer for Begumpet, assured that the area is cleaned regularly and inspections are conducted frequently. He highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness given the daily movement of ministers and MLAs through the area. Srinivas further stated that he will instruct a re-inspection of the entire street to ensure it meets sanitation standards.

Ahmed took to ‘X’ and posted that, “Debris, trash & unattended garbage at BRS Party office lane at every 10 metres till Masjid at Viqar nagar in begumpet ward 149 @GHMCOnline, @ZC_Khairatabad, @CommissionrGHMC, @THHyderabad, @swachhhyd., @Ilovehyderabad, @AmitLeliSlayer, @abntelugutv, @anusha_puppala, @revathitweets.”
