BC Welfare Association demands five cabinet berths for BC leaders

Bc Leaders Demand Cabinet Posts

Hyderabad: The National BC Welfare Association has demanded that five ministerial berths be allocated to Backward Classes(BCs) leaders, who won in the assembly elections, in the upcoming cabinet expansion. In the previous cabinet formation, only two ministerial positions were given to BC leaders, which the association deemed as injustice for BCs. Further the association demanded for a 50 percent quota for BCs in nominated posts as per the population.

“While Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has pledged to provide political representation to BCs proportionate to their population. However at the state level it is not being implemented by their party. During the recent Assembly-Parliament elections, the Congress party allocated only 22 tickets to BCs, despite promises of fair representation. At that time, the party was in the opposition and focused on backing “winning horses,” which led to perceived injustices against BCs “, said Rajya Sabha member and National BC Welfare Association president R Krishnaiah. He further added, now the party has come to power at least now BC should be given prominence according to population.

Further the association demanded for a 50 percent quota for BCs in nominated posts, including positions such as chairman and director in public sector organizations. They argue that many BC leaders at the district and taluka levels were overlooked during the legislative assembly elections. Given the significant contribution of BCs to the Congress party’s victory, the association insists that the current administration should ensure fair representation in both ministerial and nominated posts.

After coming to power, the Congress party has not introduced even a single scheme for the development of BCs (Backward Classes). The National BC Welfare Association came up with a list of demands- Establish corporations for all the sub-castes of BC, complete fee waivers of tuition fees for BC students pursuing college courses,Conduct a population census of BC communities without any delay,Increase Panchayati Raj reservations according to the population.
