Food Safety Officials Flag Hygiene Lapses At Zepto Store In Malkajgiri

HYDERABAD: Food Safety Officers from the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation inspected a Zepto retail and distribution store in Malkajgiri on July 7, 2026, as part of routine food safety checks. The team found several food safety and hygiene violations and recommended issuing an improvement notice.

Unhygienic storage, pest infestation among key findings

Inspectors found that the store had not displayed its Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence in a prominent place. Staff stored several food items directly on the floor under unhygienic conditions.

Food handlers worked without aprons or gloves. The team also noticed damaged and unhygienic flooring, a heavy housefly infestation across the premises, and poor waste disposal practices.

The inspection found food and non-food items stored together. Store staff failed to produce pest control records and medical fitness certificates for food handlers during the inspection.

Store asked to fix violations

The Food Safety Department recommended an improvement notice and directed the store to correct all deficiencies. Officials asked the establishment to comply with all Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms.

The store received a hygiene assessment score of 67% during the inspection.
