1 kg charas worth ₹30 lakh seized from Goa–Hyderabad bus in Zaheerabad

SANGAREDDY: The Prohibition and Excise Department seized 1.052 kg of charas from a passenger travelling on a Goa–Hyderabad bus during a joint operation near Zaheerabad, officials said on April 18, 2026.

The interception took place on April 17, 2026, at around 17.20 IST during a “route watch” at Chiragpally checkpost. Teams from SHO Zaheerabad and Checkpost Zaheerabad stopped a GMC Travels bus and conducted a search.

During inspection, officials found the contraband in possession of a passenger identified as Budha Ram, a native of Jodhpur district in Rajasthan. The accused was taken into custody.

Seizure includes contraband and mobile phone

Officials said 1.052 kg of charas was recovered along with an OPPO mobile phone. The estimated market value of the seized narcotic substance is about ₹30 lakh.

Operation conducted under senior officers’ supervision

The operation was carried out under the directions of Shahnawaz Qasim and supervised by J. Harikishan, G. Srinivas Reddy and K. Srinivasa Rao.

Officials have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigation is underway to trace the source and distribution network of the contraband.

The operation team included T. Srinivas Reddy, B. Koteshwar Rao, B. Ramesh, P. Shantha, G. Yaraiah and Md. Younus.
