Zafar Javeed unanimously elected as President of Nizam Club again

Hyderabad: A 68-year-old Congress leader Zafar Javeed was elected as the new President of the Nizam Club, The results for the election of new office bearers of the club were declared on Monday.

The polls for biannual presidential election were held at the iconic club on October 6, Sunday. Karuna (Dundoo), a nutritionist and contender for the top job gave a tough fight to rival Zafar Javeed, who is an incumbent president of the club, during polls. However, Zafar prevailed over her by securing 1103 votes while Karuna managed to secure the second position with 1003 votes.

KR Ajoy Reddy with 1134 votes was elected as the Joint Secretary. He defeated his rival D Srinivas with a margin of 205 votes in the election.

The other officer bearers (members of Managing Committee) are Dr Anil M Patalay (178), Mir Osman Ali Khan (1140), P Shailaja Reddy (1097), R Rajeshwar Reddy (1107), Suleman Moinuddin (407) and Surender Singh Makhija (1162).

Karuna was a vice-president of the club and unsuccessfully contested for the president post in the Sunday polls. Nizam Club has never had a woman as its president in its 140 years of existence. Over the years, the membership of the club has grown and currently it has 7,000 members

Recently, Hyderabad’s historic club was in news after the Telangana food safety officials conducted a surprise check and found several violations in the food served to the club members. It was revealed that the club did not have a valid FSSAI license and the club management was clueless about the requisite records needed by the officials.
