Youth Sentenced to 3 Years for Harassing Minor Girl

Nagole: A Fast Track Special Court at LB Nagar in Ranga Reddy district on September 23, 2024, sentenced a 27-year-old man to three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000 for harassing a minor girl.

The accused has been identified as Mainam Kumar (27), a resident of Old Nagole, who was convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for his actions.

According to the police reports, Mainam Kumar had been harassing the girl daily under the Nagole police station limits, chasing her and misbehaving with her inappropriately. The girl’s parents had lodged a complaint against Mainam Kumar in October 2020, leading to the registration of a case under sections 354-C, 354-D, 507 of the Indian Penal Code, and section 12 of the POCSO Act in Nagole Police Station.

The court also awarded the victim a compensation of Rs. 1,00,000. The Rachakonda Commissioner of Police commended the investigating officer, child development officer, and additional public prosecutor for their efforts in securing the conviction.

It was earlier reported that Telangana police achieved significant convictions in rape and POCSO cases with 28 convictions. The highest number of significant convictions were recorded in Hyderabad and Rachakonda, each with a total of 5 convictions.

According to the data revealed by the Telangana police, there were 28 convictions across the state—15 for 20 years, 2 for 25 years, and 11 for life imprisonment. The highest number of significant convictions were recorded in Hyderabad and Rachakonda, each with 5 convictions.

Some of the cases include the Hyderabad Commissionerate, a father of 8 children was awarded Life imprisonment for repeatedly raping his daughter. In Cyberabad Commissionerate, Capital punishment was awarded by the local court in Ranga Reddy in a case involving the rape and murder of a young girl at Narsingi Police Station.
