Yousufguda residents struggle with year-long septic tank pipeline damage

Hyderabad: Residents living near Cyborgz Hostel in Habeed Bagh, Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Yousufguda, Hyderabad, have been enduring significant inconvenience due to a damaged septic tank pipeline for over a year. The pipeline, which has been leaking daily, has caused a persistent foul smell and has left the road dirty.
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Nikhil, a resident, explained the ongoing issue. “The septic tank pipeline at the house was damaged a long time ago, and it has been leaking onto the road every day. This has resulted in a terrible smell and a dirty road.”
He said, “Despite numerous requests to the house owner to repair the pipeline, he merely acknowledges the issue but takes no action. For some of the neighbors, the smell has become unbearable. I reported the problem on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), and while the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) responded and promised to address the issue, no repairs have been carried out so far.”
Nikhil’s post on ‘X’, tagging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), read: “Hi Team, the septic tank drainage is leaking because the pipeline was damaged long ago. Despite multiple requests from neighbors over the past year, the issue remains unresolved, causing ongoing inconvenience to the area. Please address this issue and ensure that it is rectified.”

In response, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board acknowledged the complaint. “Sir, your complaint with token number 9465 has been registered and forwarded to the concerned officials, Yellareddyguda section manager, for prompt resolution. Thank you.”
Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) have issued a warning about the strict consequences for unauthorised individuals who open manholes. This is particularly important during the rainy season to avoid accidents.
According to the HMWSSB Act of 1989, Section 74, it is illegal for anyone to open or remove manhole lids without official permission. Violators face severe penalties, including criminal charges, fines, and possible imprisonment.
Residents are urged to report any damaged or open manholes to the Water Board’s complaint number, 155313.
