Yousufguda dumping yard accident kills sanitation worker

Yousufguda: A sanitation worker died after accidentally falling into a garbage dumping machine at a waste transfer station in Yousufguda in the early hours of Saturday.
Worker falls into dumping machine while unloading waste
Police and co-workers said the victim, Sudhakar, 40, was a native of Eeswarapalli village in Gooty mandal of Anantapur district and had been living with his family in the Hitec City area. He worked as a sanitation labourer along with his wife Lakshminarasamma, collecting household waste in the Jubilee Hills area and unloading it at the Yousufguda dumping yard.
On Saturday around 5.30 am, the couple reached the dumping yard in an auto carrying collected waste. Sudhakar asked his wife to wait at the gate and went inside to unload the garbage. During the process, he accidentally slipped and fell from the ramp into the dumping machine.
Body found after garbage unloaded into container truck
Another worker, Eeswaramma, who was on duty at the yard, grew suspicious when Sudhakar did not return. She alerted the supervising official. By then, the waste from the dumping machine had already been loaded into a container truck bearing registration number TS08 UH 7335.
The garbage was unloaded from the container on suspicion, following which Sudhakar’s body was found inside. Co-workers alleged that he died of suffocation while the waste was being transferred from the dumping machine into the container truck.
He was rushed to the government hospital in Ameerpet, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Workers protest, allege negligence by contractor
Following the incident, relatives of the deceased and fellow sanitation workers staged a protest at the dumping yard. They alleged negligence on the part of the contractor, Ramky company, and demanded action against those responsible. The protest continued till evening.
Sudhakar is survived by his wife, two daughters — Swarnalatha, 10, and Krishnatulasi, 5 and a son, Sumant Kumar, 7.
