Yanam youth dies after falling from boat

YANAM: A young man died after he slipped and fell from a boat near the Yedurlanka side of the GMC Balayogi Vaaradhi on Thursday night.
Yanam sub-inspector M Kumar said Tadepalli-based Uma Maheswara Rao and six friends had planned to celebrate his birthday near the eighth pillar of the bridge. At around 10pm, Karnedi Shekhar, from Dariyalatippa Balayogi Colony, and the others reached the spot on a friend’s boat from Kurasampeta.
Friends alert police after man goes missing
The group consumed alcohol during the celebrations and started returning at around 11pm. While the boat was taking a turn near the mouth of the Coringa river, Shekhar slipped and fell into the Godavari.
The remaining friends informed the police around midnight. Police launched a search operation in the Gauthami Godavari with the help of Seagulls boats.
Body found at spot where Shekhar fell
Shekhar’s body surfaced in the river at around 12.30pm on Friday, at the same spot where he had fallen from the boat.
Shekhar had married a woman named Sirisha after a relationship with her and had two children. He worked as a daily-wage labourer to support his wife and children, while his mother lives in the Gulf.
Sub-inspector Kumar is investigating the case.
