Health deteriorates soon after swearing in at village panchayat

SANGAREDDY: The tenure of a newly elected woman sarpanch in a village of Sangareddy lasted less than 48 hours after she died due to illness on Wednesday.

Yerrolla Akkamma, 58, the sarpanch of Mirzapur village in Nyalkal mandal, breathed her last at her residence after her health deteriorated, residents said.

Akkamma had won the gram panchayat elections with the support of the Congress party, securing a majority of 141 votes. She took oath on Monday at the gram panchayat premises along with the ward members.

Her sudden death has left the village in shock. Following the demise, election officials are expected to initiate the process for conducting a re-election to the sarpanch post in the village.
