Woman found practicing medicine without license in FilmNagar
Hyderabad: In Hyderabad, a woman named Annapureddy Rajalakshmi was caught practicing medicine without a license. The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana raided her clinic in Film Nagar, Jubilee Hills, and found a stockpile of 40 different types of drugs valued at ₹1 lakh, which were being sold illegally.
Antibiotics and Steroids found during raid
During the raid, DCA officials discovered a range of higher generation antibiotics at the clinic. The unregulated sale of such antibiotics by unqualified individuals can lead to severe health issues for the rural population, including the risk of developing Antimicrobial Resistance. This is a significant concern as it can render common treatments ineffective against infections.
Additionally, the officials found steroids at the clinic, which, when misused, can cause detrimental health effects. These include suppression of the immune system, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular issues, and psychological problems. The uncontrolled use of steroids is a serious threat to public health.

The DCA is now conducting further investigations and will take legal action against all offenders involved. The administration is also targeting Wholesalers/Dealers who supply medicines to such unlicensed practitioners. These suppliers are liable for punishment under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act if they provide drugs without ensuring the recipients have a valid drug license.
The DCA, Telangana, is responsible for issuing drug licenses for the stocking and selling of medicines as per the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Engaging in these activities without a license can lead to imprisonment of up to five years. To combat this issue, the DCA has intensified surprise checks on those engaged in the illegal sale of drugs without a license, and stringent actions are promised against those found in violation of the law.
The public is encouraged to report any illegal activities related to medicines to the DCA, Telangana. They can do so by calling the toll-free number 1800-599-6969, which operates from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days. The DCA’s efforts are led by V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, IPS, the Director General of DCA.
