Chandanagar lift tragedy: Husband blames technician, apartment association for wife’s death
HYDERABAD: A 43-year-old woman died in a tragic lift accident at an apartment in Chandanagar on Tuesday, allegedly due to gross negligence on the part of a lift maintenance technician and apartment association members, according to a complaint filed by her husband.
The victim, Anasuya, was married to Dhadi Srinivas. They lived in SC Colony, Nallagandla, Serilingampally. On the day of the accident, Anasuya went with her husband to Chatwaj Mansion Apartment in Annapurna Enclave, Chandanagar. They were visiting her maternal uncle, Dhadi Govind, who was staying there to recover from a head injury.
According to the complaint, the couple got to the apartment at about 11:00 AM on August 4, 2026. When they reached the ground floor, Srinivas pressed the elevator button and the doors opened. He went in first. As Anasuya tried to step into the elevator, with one foot inside and the other still outside, the elevator suddenly started going up before the doors had closed. She got stuck between the elevator and the entrance. She suffered serious injuries to her waist and other parts of her body and lost consciousness right away.
When Anasuya cried for help, people from the apartment and others nearby came quickly. They pulled her out of the elevator and took her to Archana Hospital in Chandanagar. But doctors said she was already dead. After that, her daughter took her to Holistic Hospital in Nizampet to try to get more help, but she could not be saved.
In his complaint, Srinivas said that elevator repair work was going on when the accident happened. He said the lift technician, Anil Kumar, did the repairs without turning off the main power or putting up any warning signs for the people living there.
He further alleged that apartment association members, Ram Reddy, Yogender, and Venkat Reddy, and the owner of the lift maintenance company, did not make sure the building was safe for residents.
Srinivas wants legal action against the accused. He believes his wife’s death happened because the technician and the apartment association did not provide enough safety. Police have registered a case and are still investigating to find out exactly what happened.
