Santragachi Special Express at Guntur Railway Station – site of passenger assault and robbery

SECUNDERABAD: A 40-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted and robbed aboard the Santragachi Special Express (Train No. 07222) on the night of October 13, 2025, raising concerns about passenger safety.

The incident occurred between 7:20 PM and 7:53 PM while the train was traveling between Guntur and Peddakurapadu stations in Andhra Pradesh. The survivor, a resident of Rajamahendravaram in East Godavari District, was traveling to Charlapally for work as a domestic helper.

According to the complaint filed with the Government Railway Police in Secunderabad, the survivor boarded the train at Rajahmundry Railway Station in the afternoon and was alone in a rear ladies’ coach. The incident began when the train stopped at Guntur Railway Station around 7:05 PM.

An unidentified man, described as being around 40 years old, of short stature, and wearing a black shirt and grey pants, approached the ladies’ coach. He attempted to open the door, and the woman informed him it was a ladies-only compartment and tried to lock the door.

The man reportedly convinced her to let him in, then entered the coach and closed the door. As the train left Guntur, he allegedly brandished a knife, threatened the woman, and forcibly raped her. He also physically assaulted her.

After the assault, the perpetrator robbed the survivor, taking her handbag containing Rs 5,600 and her mobile phone. He then jumped off the train as it slowed near Peddakurapadu Railway Station and made his escape.

Investigation

After the incident, the survivor traveled to Charlapally and then reported the crime to the Government Railway Police in Secunderabad. The police registered a Zero FIR, which allows a case to be filed outside the jurisdiction and transferred to the appropriate station. The case has been transferred to Nadikudi Police Station for investigation.

The Government Railway Police has initiated efforts to identify and apprehend the accused based on the survivor’s description.
