Wild cat misidentified as leopard near Miyapur Metro Station

Miyapur: The locals were alarmed after a video showing a leopard roaming near the Miyapur Metro station went viral yesterday. However, on October 19, 2024, forest officials confirmed that the animal was a wild cat, easing concerns in the area.
The sighting, reported yesterday, prompted an urgent search by forest department officials and local police. After the video circulated, officials quickly confirmed that it matched the location shown in the clip.
While no footprints were found, officials collected fresh droppings from the animal and sent them for DNA testing to confirm its identity.
“The animal in the video seemed like a leopard, but further investigation revealed it is a wild cat,” said a senior forest officer. “Residents do not need to worry.”
Authorities had initially warned locals to exercise caution, but the clarification has brought relief to the locals. Forest department personnel from the Chilkur range were deployed to monitor the situation and ensure public safety.
