Water Board fines Banjara Hills resident ₹10,000 for wasting drinking water
HYDERABAD: A resident of Anand Nagar Colony in Banjara Hills has been fined ₹10,000 for wasting drinking water supplied by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).
MD spots water wastage during field inspection
The action followed a field visit by Water Board Managing Director Ashok Reddy in the Khairatabad area to review sewerage-related issues. During the inspection, officials found drinking water overflowing from a sump and overhead tank at a house in Anand Nagar Colony.
Ashok Reddy expressed concern over the wastage of treated drinking water and directed officials to issue a notice to the house owner and impose a penalty.
Water Board warns against misuse of potable water
Acting on the MD’s instructions, officials levied a fine of ₹10,000 on the resident.
The Water Board appealed to consumers not to use drinking water supplied by the utility for non-essential purposes or allow it to be wasted through negligence.
Action against violators to continue
Ashok Reddy warned that the Water Board would take appropriate action against anyone found misusing or wasting drinking water in future.
Officials said the measure is aimed at promoting responsible use of potable water and preventing unnecessary wastage.
