Hurry Up! last chance to avail water bill OTS

Hyderabad: Only one day left to clear the water bills under the One Time Settlement-2024 (OTS) scheme for long-pending water bill arrears in Hyderabad. The deadline for paying bills will end on the 30th of this month.

Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials urge to take advantage of the OTS scheme before the 30th November. If the original pending amount is paid within the deadline, no interest or late fee is needed. After that, interest and penalty will apply.

This scheme, which started in October, continued until the end of that month. However, due to festivals, people going home, and financial burden, they could not utilize it properly. Requests were received to extend the period. HMWSSB wrote a letter to the government requesting an extension. The government responded positively and allowed an extension by another month, until the end of November.

HMWSSB urges citizens to clear pending bills

The government, which has already extended the period once due to public requests, is unlikely to extend this scheme again. After it expires, authorities are preparing to take action against consumers whose bills are pending from December 1, 2024. If necessary, their water connections will also be disconnected.

In a press release, the water board’s managing director, Ashok Reddy, requested that people use the OTS scheme to clear their long overdue water bills. He said consumers will get a concession on late fee and interest if they clear the principal amount. Through this OTS, HMWSSB had envisioned recovering over Rs. 300 crore arrears from nearly 3.75 lakh consumers.
