Hyderabad police bust fake number plate racket, three held
HYDERABAD: Police arrested three men for allegedly using the same registration number on three different two-wheelers to evade traffic enforcement and mislead authorities in the Warasiguda police station limits.
The accused are Nakoti Mallikarjun, 28, a lighting businessman; Bheem Ajay Reddy, 29, a businessman; and Koppula Dhanraj, 30, a collection agent. All three are residents of Parsigutta in Secunderabad.
Police seized three Honda Activa scooters. Each vehicle displayed the registration number TS09 FE 4997.
Investigation reveals duplicate number plate operation
The case surfaced after police stopped Ajay Reddy while he was riding one of the scooters. During the inspection, officers checked the engine and chassis numbers. They found that the vehicle was unregistered.
According to investigators, the scooter originally belonged to a man identified as Sai Ram. He had handed it over to Mallikarjun against a pending debt. However, the vehicle still had an outstanding loan of ₹36,000 with IndusInd Bank.
To avoid repossession, Mallikarjun allegedly fixed a duplicate number plate copied from his registered scooter. He then allowed the other accused to use the vehicle.
Further investigation showed that the trio had placed the same registration number on three different Honda Activa scooters. As a result, they allegedly avoided traffic challans and misled enforcement agencies.
Case registered under BNS provisions
Police registered a case under Sections 318(4) and 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Warasiguda police station.
Inspector S. Saidababu supervised the operation. Personnel from the Charminar Task Force and the Warasiguda police also took part in the operation. The investigation is continuing.
