Warangal to get Telangana’s second-largest govt cancer hospital
WARANGAL: Telangana health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha said the state’s second-largest government cancer hospital will be established in Warangal.
He said the Warangal Regional Cancer Hospital would be developed to provide advanced cancer treatment to people from the erstwhile Warangal district and other parts of north Telangana. The Warangal Super Speciality Hospital, which is under construction, will be made operational by the end of this year, he added.
Minister reviews healthcare facilities across three districts
Rajanarasimha, along with minister Konda Surekha, reviewed healthcare services in Warangal, Hanumakonda and Jangaon districts at his chamber in the Secretariat.
MLAs Kadiyam Srihari, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Naini Rajender Reddy, Revuri Prakash Reddy, Mamidala Yashaswini Reddy and K R Nagaraj attended the meeting. Health secretary Christina Z Chongthu, health and family welfare commissioner S Sangeetha Satyanarayana, director of medical education Vani, director of public health Ravinder Naik, district health officials and hospital superintendents were also present.
The minister reviewed medical services, infrastructure and the progress of development works at government medical colleges, government general hospitals, community health centres, primary health centres and area hospitals in the three districts. The progress of construction work at the Warangal Super Speciality Hospital was also discussed.
The MLAs briefed the minister on healthcare services in hospitals in their constituencies and measures required to strengthen the facilities. Rajanarasimha directed officials to consider their suggestions, examine the issues raised and take immediate action.
MGM to add nine super-speciality medical services
The minister said MGM Hospital currently provides services in 29 specialties and would soon introduce nine more super-speciality services. He directed the health secretary to immediately initiate the required measures.
Rajanarasimha said the Warangal Super Speciality Hospital would be developed as a healthcare hub providing a range of medical services to people across north Telangana.
He said letters of credit (LOCs) would be sanctioned to the hospital on the lines of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). The government would ensure full-fledged services with advanced medical equipment, specialists and adequate staff.
The minister also said the government would further develop the general hospitals and medical colleges at Jangaon and Narsampet.
An in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) centre and a drug and food testing laboratory would be set up in Hanumakonda. Advanced ophthalmology services would also be introduced at the Regional Eye Hospital, he said.
Rajanarasimha announced that an additional director of medical education would be appointed as the regular superintendent of MGM Hospital.
Dialysis centres have already been sanctioned for Parkal, Wardhannapet, Station Ghanpur, Bachannapet, Palakurthi and Kamalapur. The required infrastructure would be completed and the centres opened to the public soon, he said.
Govt plans stronger district-level healthcare network
The minister said the government would examine a proposal from MLAs to appoint an IAS officer as special officer to improve monitoring of government hospitals in the erstwhile Warangal district.
He asked elected representatives to regularly bring the healthcare requirements of their constituencies to the government’s notice and participate in efforts to improve government hospitals.
Rajanarasimha said the government was working to strengthen public hospitals and provide quality healthcare. Its plan was to ensure that patients could access quality medical services at the district level itself.
Human resources, infrastructure, advanced medical equipment, medicines and diagnostic services were being strengthened across government hospitals, he said.
Strengthening district hospitals would reduce the patient load on major Hyderabad hospitals such as NIMS, Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital, the minister added.
