Warangal NIT ex-professor loses ₹1 crore in cyber fraud

WARANGAL: A former professor of the National Institute of Technology Warangal lost ₹1,00,001,000 to cyber fraudsters who lured him with a fake stock market investment plan.
Victim contacted through online investment search
Sudhakar searched for an investment plan online and clicked on a link that led him to share his WhatsApp number. The fraudsters added him to a group named “H_18” and gradually gained his trust.
Fraudsters posed as company officials
A person identifying himself as Kiran introduced himself as an accounts manager of a company. Believing the claims, Sudhakar transferred ₹1,00,001,000 to accounts provided by the accused.
Funds transferred in phases since January
Police said the victim sent money in multiple instalments from January onwards. He realised the fraud only after failing to retrieve the investment returns.
Sudhakar later lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police station. A case has been registered, and the cyber crime wing has begun an inquiry.
