WARANGAL:  Heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Montha left several parts of Warangal under water on Wednesday. Large stretches of Hanamkonda and Kazipet areas were inundated, with residential colonies resembling lakes.

Traffic on Hunter Road, connecting Warangal and Hanamkonda, came to a halt after the Bondi stream overflowed. Access to the Bhadrakali temple was cut off as floodwaters submerged the approach road from the temple to the Polytechnic College.

Six relief camps set up

Municipal authorities in Warangal East set up six rehabilitation centres. Disaster management teams ferried residents from submerged areas to these camps using boats. Several houses in Santoshi Mata Colony, DK Nagar, NN Nagar, Maisaiah Nagar, Sammayya Nagar and Sai Ganesh Colony were flooded, forcing residents to evacuate.

Roads washed away, vehicles swept off

In Hanamkonda, water from the Vaddepalli tank entered nearby colonies including Jawahar Colony, Gopalpur and the 100 ft Road area. Breaches in Somidi and Gopalpur tanks on the Kazipet to Hanamkonda route caused severe flooding, disrupting vehicular movement. Vivekananda Nagar, Amaravati Nagar and Pragathi Nagar colonies were submerged, with cars and bikes swept away by the current.

A deep crater formed at the 80 ft junction on the road connecting Pochamma Maidan and Deshaipet, posing danger to motorists.
